National Bikini Day celebrates the anniversary of the fashion icon. Join us at our Isla Mujeres hotel and celebrate it with a Bikini Sandwich by the pool.
History of National Bikini Day
On July 5th, 1946, fashion designer Louis Réard shocked the world of fashion when he hired a model to showcase the new two-piece swimwear by the pool. Since then, women have been able to enjoy beaches and pools in bikinis worldwide. The bikini derived its name from the Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, where the United States tested nuclear weapons. Ironically, while Europe was willing to adopt the two-piece suit from its inception, the United States and the rest of the world took longer to adopt the new and exposing swimwear until the 1960s. On July 5th, we celebrate National Bikini Day to commemorate the anniversary of this piece that has changed the history of fashion.
Bikinis in Isla Mujeres
Considered Bikini Heaven by some, Isla Mujeres offers some of the best beaches to showcase your two-piece suit. The island creates a setting that provides relaxing or adventurous opportunities to get wet and have fun in the water. Whether you’re looking to get a tan, or go scuba diving, Isla Mujeres offers the chance of spending every day of your stay in a bikini.
Did you know a sandwich can be referred to as a bikini as well? The name derives from Barcelona’s Bikini Concert Hall where vendors sell these pressed ham and cheese sandwiches to concert attendees. While you sit by the pool at Privilege Aluxes, be sure to order one of these delicious bites like the one in the picture!
